Letter: Diplomat backs Lancaster for Congress
To the editor: I served as a diplomat for nearly three decades and I’m proud to be supporting Dr. Mariah Lancaster for Congress.
As U.S. Foreign Service officers, my colleagues and I kept America safe and promoted stability around the world. We strengthened thoughtful immigration and border security policies, advanced trade negotiations, and supported post-conflict stabilization.
The reality is we cannot isolate ourselves from the world’s challenges. Global events shape the everyday lives of American families. Our engagement with the world should ensure that the economic benefits of trade are shared broadly, create opportunity, and bring millions of people into the middle class.
Dr. Lancaster understands how deeply connected global challenges are to the daily struggles Americans face. They recognize that effective leadership means building a bridge between the issues affecting families in our communities and the realities shaping our interconnected world.
In a time where our nation desperately needs public servants to uphold their oath of office, Dr. Lancaster has already proven they will do just that. They have demonstrated a career of service, from their work as an emergency veterinarian, helping hardworking families navigate impossible choices, to their own service in the State Department, protecting our environment while combating corruption and crime around the globe, and as legislative staff in the U.S. House of Representatives. Dr. Lancaster has my vote because they personally understand the lived realities facing North Shore families and has the policy expertise we need to give hardworking people a fair shot at a better life.
