As an emergency veterinarian, I have guided families through the impossible choice between affording care and paying rent. They have seen firsthand how private equity is buying essential services, inflating prices, and taking advantage of desperate families.

The same is true across the entire healthcare system — the only solution is structural reform:

• Enact Medicare for All with universal, single-payer coverage

• Expand Medicare to include comprehensive dental, vision, and hearing care

• Wipe out all medical debt

• Codify Reproductive Rights:

  • Write abortion rights and birth control into federal law

  • Repeal the Hyde Amendment

  • Ban pregnancy crisis centers that spread medical disinformation

• Federally protect gender-affirming care

• Expand teen mental healthcare

• Invest in overdose prevention centers to humanely address the opioid crisis

• Invest in emergency services:

  • Federally fund non-profit and municipal ambulance services

  • Amend the No Surprises Act to include ground ambulances

• Eliminate prior authorization requirements and end all out-of-network billing

• Allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices and prescription medication importation

• Restore Medicaid and CHIP eligibility for immigrants; end exclusion of undocumented people from ACA marketplaces

• Expand health savings accounts to include veterinary care
